For chiropractic clinics

Cryotherapy for Chiropractors

Targeted cold for pain-focused visits, a cash service line beside the adjustment table, and a reason patients stay on the schedule after the care plan ends. It does not require the doctor's time: a tech runs the session, or the Kiosk runs itself.

The operating reality

The squeeze every clinic knows

  • Reimbursement pressure keeps squeezing the value of each insured visit, while the cost of delivering it keeps rising
  • Patients quit care plans the week the pain eases, taking the back half of the plan’s visits with them
  • Growth means either more patient volume in the same hours or more revenue per visit, and volume has a ceiling
  • Clinics that live on insurance alone have no cash-pay cushion when payer policies shift

The playbook

How to build a successful chiropractic practice

Three moves grow a practice: find the source of new patients, keep the patients you have, and market the services that bring both through the door.

Step 01

Find the source of new patients

Lower back pain (LBP) is now the leading cause of disability worldwide. The last Global Burden of Disease Study ranked low back pain as the number one cause of disability in the whole world. People are often referred to chiropractors for back problems, and there is strong evidence that doctors of chiropractic are well suited to diagnose, treat, co-manage and manage the treatment of patients with LBP disorders.[1]

More than 40% of chiropractic patient visits are for disease prevention and/or health enhancement.

A bigger market

$14.1 billion out of pocket

In 2012, 29 million adults in the U.S. paid $14.1 billion for office visits to complementary health practitioners, including acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic and massage therapy.[2] Chiropractic is a small portion of that spending, so offering chiropractic alone limits your exposure to the market.

Go multidisciplinary

54% more new patients

A multidisciplinary clinic has a practicing DC and at least one other complementary practitioner on staff (for example an acupuncturist, PT or LMT). In a 2018 Chiropractic Economics survey of 5,000 practices, multidisciplinary clinics reported a 54% higher new-patients-per-week rate than DC-only practices.[4]

Chiropractic Economics, 2018

From the survey

“Your skill in treating patients with regular adjustments can undoubtedly position you well for a comfortable career. But if you face stagnation and are looking for new paths to explore, year after year our survey demonstrates that joining forces with complementary specialists is a surefire way to expand your practice and boost your bottom line.”

Step 02

Retain existing patients

Growing a practice is not only about acquiring new patients; it is about retaining established ones. The key metric for that is your patient visit average (PVA). Even though PVA is a number, think of it as a relationship indicator: the higher the PVA, the better your relationship with your patients.

Patient visit average = total patient visits ÷ total number of patients

Industry average

A PVA of 16.6

In 2018, practices welcomed an average of 9 new patients per week and saw a total of 139 patients per week, with a PVA of 16.6.[4]

Not every practice keeps them

A 44% return rate

A patient satisfaction survey of 150 random patients found that the rate of return to the same chiropractic office was 44%.[3]

How to raise it

Stay in touch, then add services

Keep up communication with welcome letters, thank-you and birthday cards and regular follow-ups. Cater to your patients’ needs and earn their trust by educating them on complementary therapies. And when you introduce new services, existing patients visit more often and your PVA rises.

Average visit value = total revenue ÷ total patient visits

Step 03

Use search engine and social media marketing

  • Create new marketing packages. Successful practices market well. Run email, SMS and website campaigns for your new services. New services also bring new search traffic, because they give your pages new keywords to rank for.
  • Promote your new services on social media. Followers tire of the same posts. Freshen up with your new cryotherapy packages, teach patients what cryotherapy is, and invite them to try it.
  • Find people already looking for cryotherapy. Join cryotherapy, fitness and athletics groups online and invite interested people to your practice, and answer questions on Q&A sites such as Quora to build your practice’s brand.

Total patient revenue = patient visit average × average visit value

The more you raise your PVA and your average visit value, the higher your total patient revenue. Cryotherapy does both: it gives existing patients a reason to come back and gives new ones a reason to find you.

Multidisciplinary, without the payroll

A new complementary modality, without hiring additional staff

Multidisciplinary clinics bill more than DC-only practices, but the DC’s own salary and compensation tend to be lower, because more practitioners on staff means a smaller share for the doctor. Cryotherapy adds the complementary service without adding the practitioner: a tech runs the session, or the Kiosk runs itself.

What cryo adds

Built for the way a clinic day runs

Cryotherapy earns beside the work you already do, patient by patient, in the gaps your schedule already has.

Clinical fit

Cold where the pain is

The handheld XR ISO delivers -80° precision cooling to the exact area you just worked on, with thermal imaging and proximity sensors watching the treatment.

Cash revenue

A service line outside reimbursement

Cryotherapy is a cash service. It adds revenue per visit without another claim, another code, or another negotiation with a payer.

Retention

A reason to return after the pain fades

Patients who finish a care plan can stay on your schedule for recovery sessions instead of disappearing until the next flare-up.

Workflow

Minutes, not appointments

Localized treatments run 1–5 minutes and whole-body sessions 2–3, so cryo rides along with the adjustment schedule you already run.

Staffing

Does not require doctor time

A CA or front-desk tech runs the session; the doctor never leaves the adjustment table. The XR Cryo Kiosk goes further and runs sessions with no staff at all.

Fit

Every platform works in a chiro clinic

XR ISO for targeted work at the table, XR Cryosauna or the self-service XR Cryo Kiosk for whole-body recovery, and the Cryo Plunge for the recovery corner. Start with one and add the next.

The revenue opportunity

Cash revenue, visit after visit

Sell single sessions as an add-on at checkout, recovery packages at care-plan discharge, and monthly memberships for maintenance patients. For scale, the client’s worked example for a full cryo schedule: 20 treatments a day at a $40 average ticket grosses $24,000 a month.

Sample session and upgrade pricing

What memberships add up to

Proof

Safety credentials your patients will ask about

In a clinical setting, the safety story matters as much as the service. Here is how an XR operator tells it.

John Jennings, Owner, No Limits Cryotherapy

“Our XR Chamber has the highest safety features on the market and is the most technologically advanced. Each chamber operator is a Cryo Innovations certified technician, CPR certified and will be with you the entire 3 minutes you are in the chamber, talking you through the experience.”

John Jennings

Owner, No Limits Cryotherapy

6,000+ Sessions Club

“The experience I have had thus far with Cryo Innovations is nothing short of excellent and ultra professional. They are focused and they listen and try and help you with any glitches or issues. The product is amazing and only getting better. It is easy to use and the cabin is large enough to accommodate people without feeling boxed in … Even though we are far apart as a vendor and a user I feel like these guys are next door and they are there for you.”
